This is the first post for the technology category of the MadMos domain. I am  dedicating this page to anything geeky, which I am a self proclaimed gadget geek, as those who know me can atest to. As well as an occasional IT related topic that may be of interest to me or big IT news. If anyone has a topic they would like to see discussed that may fall into this realm just shoot me a note or leave a comment. (register first).

I will kick it off with a short post on one of the best geek gadgets to come around since the birth of the mp3 player. The slingbox.

For those that don’t know what this device is, it is an internet ready device that broadcasts/streams a feed from your cable/satellite box out over the internet. Then from a pc or internet capable mobile phone/pda you log into the device and watch the tv coming from said receiver.

You have full control over the receiver as well. Change channels, access tivo/dvr list and play a recorded show. Pause, play, rewind etc… And obviously you can set it up to record a show then to. Just like you are home sitting in front of the tv with the remote in your hand.

Here is a screen shot of the slingplayer running on a laptop. You will see the picture of the remote control. This makes it seamless as far as learning curve to control the tv. You are just hitting the same buttons you always do. Just with a mouse click instead of your fingers.

All I can say is slingbox is THE BOMB. It is even better than my words on a reveiw can convey. And it is relatively inexpensive too. It sells on Amazon for around $100. One time cost, no recurring subscription fees or upgrades to pay for. The only additional cost is the mobile player if you want to use it on a phone. Which I highly recommend. You may not think you have much need for tv on your phone. But you will be surprised by how often it comes in handy. Stuck in a waiting room or the airport for a couple of hours? Well plug in your headset, bring up the slingbox and watch your favorite show. I have been known to have my Tilt sitting on the table at a resturuant watching the game while we eat dinner. Never miss a minute again.

So those of you that have been on the fence about getting one of these now you know. Trust the gadget geek, I know sweetness when I see it. Best thing to happen to tv since the remote control.

Next up on my tech radar for review will be my new Ipod killer. So come back often, register on the site and leave feedback, join the discussion forum and leave a comment to articles you like or dislike. I welcome all comments and criticisms.

Till next time, just remember you can never have enough toys!
